What is an Ezine or Electronic Magazine?

Many folks have heard the word Ezine and many may receive them in the email box. The approved definition of an Ezine Appears to be an Electronic Magazine. Yes, it is but I remember the very first ones in 1995 and 1996. They were emailed electronic company newsletters, academic newsletters and such. Then in 1997 we saw Electronic Trade Journals and Industry Association emailed newsletters.

Definitional Conflicts with the Word Ezine

Many folks who send out or publish Ezines believe that Ezines must be sent out by email otherwise they are not an Ezine. Others say that an Ezine is an Electronic Magazine. In discussing this recently with several of the leading industry professionals in the Ezine Publishing sub-sector it became apparent to me that there are some definitional conflicts regarding what exactly Ezines are and what would constitute an Ezine.

The current definition of an Ezine as you know is an electronic newsletter or electronic magazine, which is sent out via email. But is that definition too confining and absolute considering the rapid changes in the Information Age? In fact if we consider Einstein had warned us that the only constant is change. Many believe that is hard to address the subject of Ezines without a true definition and thus it must be clearly and narrowly defined.
